Step Outside of your Comfort Zone
Last Updated on March 12, 2017
Us Humans are creatures of comfort. Our comfort zone a naturals state for us— it’s a place with minimal stress, anxiety and fears.Where things are predictable and can be planned for. What a great place to be right? so why would we ever want to step outside of our comfort zone?
Well the reality is that it is impossible to reach your full potential or acheive true growth without stepping outside your comfort zone. Have you heard of an Olympian gold medalist who didn’t push himself to the limit? Do you think self made millionaires become millionaires by doing only what they feel comfortable doing? Of course not, the formula is simple:
Challenges lead to growth and lead to optimal performance in the long run.
What are some steps you can take to begin this process:
1.Determine your goal.
Once you have a goal you know the reward you can get by stepping outside your comfort zone which will motivate you to take action.
2. Accept failure as your teacher.
Failure is not a bad thing if you accept it as your teacher, and are actively learning from it. When things don’t go right, analyze why they didn’t go the way you expected, and what can you do next time to acheive better results.
3. Baby steps.
If you have a fear of speaking in public, you can start by speaking to 3rd graders at an elementary school about the importance of exercise for example. You don’t have to jump and start speaking in front of 25,000 people stadiums. Plus you might have a hard time landing that kind of gig with no experience (:
4. Associate with risk takers.
You may know of people who you identify as risk takers, people who made stepping outside their comfort zone part of their daily routine. You should start associate with those people, firebrand them, talk to them, and learn from them.
5.Leave your ego out of it.
Our ego can get in the way of our success. You might take yourself too seriosuly or care too much what people think, Don’t! Focus on your goals and dreams and don’t let shame or pride get in your way.
